Born in Brazil, Matheus Prado began his musical journey at nine, starting with piano before discovering the electric and double bass in Spain. He first studied with Fernando Lamadrid and later completed a Master’s degree in Jazz at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, refining his composition and improvisation skills under Yuri Goloubev, Steve Waterman, and Paula Gardiner. He then further developed his classical technique with Thomas Martin, creating a unique blend of jazz and classical influences.
Matheus has performed at prestigious stages including the EFG London Jazz Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival, and the legendary Beco das Garrafas in Rio de Janeiro. He has appeared in major productions such as Chicago the Musical and Mamma Mia! and now teaches at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, inspiring the next generation of musicians.

Having lived in Brazil, Spain, and the UK, Matheus experienced the challenges of cultural shifts and adaptation. Music became his anchor — a universal language connecting him to others and carrying his heritage forward. His compositions blend Afro-Brazilian rhythms, Flamenco influences, and modern jazz harmonies, offering audiences an intimate yet vibrant journey through rich, expressive soundscapes.
His upcoming trio album, Brasilidade, recorded in Rio de Janeiro, is a portrait of Brazil in jazz, embracing Brazilian rhythms and exploring them with the freedom and spontaneity of jazz improvisation.
